Advancing Collaborative Public Funding Approaches
Community Benefits Through the advocacy of the CNC, the Community Benefits Ordinance, passed in December 2015, and enabled the City to administer mitigation funds generated through property development to nonprofits, and create the Community Benefits Stabilization Fund to hold those dollars. The next step was conducting a comprehensive Community Needs Assessment to guide decision making around the investments. The Community Benefit Funds will be used to support non profit programs and services that directly benefit Cambridge residents and better address residents' unmet needs. The City has appropriated over $7 million to this fund to date through zoning amendments and agreements with developers. The Community Benefits Advisory Committee made its first round of planning grants in Spring 2019, with implementation grants to follow. CNC is committed to ensuring that the voice of the Cambridge nonprofit sector continues to help guide this process moving forward. Read more about the Community Benefits process and grantees. |
