Peace House

What are your organization’s guiding values?
We imagine a world where everyone experiences inner peace, belonging, and community. We believe in the powerful transformation possible when community, inner peace, and outward peace are cultivated together.

What are the ongoing services or programs that your
organization provides?

We are a Buddhist monastic residence that welcomes visitors – religious and non-religious – to share our sacred space. We care for the spiritual needs of the community by being a beautiful, calming refuge from the busyness of daily life. Peace House is open to anyone, whether you follow a particular religious tradition or none at all. Our focus is on cultivating inner peace through meditation, contemplation and silence. We honor the variety of ways people approach this. Our regular offerings include morning, mid-day and evening meditation, self-directed silent retreats, and chanting with the monks. We also offer beginner’s meditation, and group-based discussion. Check out the website! Our programs are all free of charge.

What Are there any upcoming projects or initiatives that your organization would like others to know about?
As a relatively new Cambridge organization, we are eager to extend our welcome to one and all. Our presence on Facebook and Instagram is in the early stages. We’re so grateful if you can help spread the word! Visit our facebook page or our Instragram

Share a recent story that embodies the work of your organization.
Visitors often comment on what it feels like to enter into the silence and beauty of our building. As one visitor recently put it, “I feel like a six-year-old child entering the doors of a big temple in the form of the house we see on Broadway. My first thought when I cross the door is “I have arrived.”

If your organization was an emoji what would it be and why?
🪷 A lotus flower. Arising from murky waters, the lotus emerges each morning in exquisite beauty. The lotus flower represents the purity of awakening that is available to us all.

In these crazy, disorienting times, what helps you remain steady and centered?  It’s different for each of us. At Peace House we believe in the power of slowing down, even if its just for short while. Our welcome sign reads “Come In. What’s Inside Leads Out”. We invite you to nurture your own inner spirit so you will be better able to navigate whatever the future holds.
