Founded in 1875, East End House is one of the oldest continuously operating community centers in the country. For nearly 150 years, we have evolved alongside Cambridge—adapting to meet emerging needs while remaining rooted in our core values. Hundreds of thousands of individuals have passed through our doors, relying on East End House as a trusted anchor, a gateway to opportunity, and a place where community endures across generations. What are the ongoing services or programs East End provides? East End House is a multi-service community center serving 5,500+ people annually, primarily under-resourced Cambridge residents. Our integrated programs include: Early Education (15 months–5 years) School Age & Middle School Out-of-School Time Programs Community Food Pantry & Infant Necessities Therapeutic Case Management & Wraparound Supports Youth Workforce Development & Career Pathways Senior Outreach, Community Events, and Volunteer Engagement Together, these programs form a trusted, community-based safety net that supports whole families across generations. Share a recent story that embodies East End's work After a sudden family tragedy, a young child and their caregiver were overwhelmed by grief, instability, and isolation. East End House became their anchor—providing counseling, academic support, parenting classes, and a consistent, caring community through the most difficult moments and into adolescence.
