What are your organization’s guiding values? Students First: We place the dreams and needs of students at the forefront of every action, every decision. Sense of Possibility: We believe that every immigrant student has unique strengths, the ability to overcome obstacles, and the potential to achieve lifelong success Authentic Relationships: We understand that learning and growth require authentic relationships, and work hard to develop a deep connection with every student, volunteer, and partner. Constant Improvement: We operate with humility and continuously evaluate the impact of our work to ensure we are doing our best for our students. What are the ongoing services or programs that Enroot provides? Enroot provides consistent programs and support that center both opportunity and community so immigrant youth can build skills, access meaningful experiences, and deepen their sense of belonging. Our weekly afterschool programming creates a welcoming space where students develop academic skills, life skills, personal growth, and career readiness in community with peers, staff, and volunteers. Through one-on-one coaching and individualized resource connections, staff support students in navigating emerging needs. Enroot also connects students to paid internships with local organizations, offering real-world experience that expands opportunity while fostering confidence, leadership, and career-connected learning. Do you have any upcoming projects or initiative that you would like others to know about? Enroot is excited to launch our new Career Skills Showcase on May 6th. More than a traditional career fair, the Career Skills Showcase is an intentionally designed career exploration event where participating presenters will share not only about their organizations, but also about the skills, experiences, and pathways that shaped their own career journeys. As part of Enroot’s broader focus on opportunity and belonging, the Showcase will connect students to career pathways while helping them practice professional communication, build networking skills, and expand their sense of what is possible for their futures. We are thrilled to introduce this new initiative and to create a space where students can engage meaningfully with professionals who are eager to share their experiences, insights, and encouragement. Share a recent story that embodies Enroot's work. We’ve recently seen Enroot alumni return to support current students in ways that draw on their own skills and interests, which really speaks to the core of Enroot’s work. At both our Cambridge Rindge and Latin School and Somerville High School sites, Enroot alumni have stepped back into our community as leaders and role models. In Somerville, a 2023 alum supported students in practicing public speaking, offering thoughtful feedback and creating a comfortable, encouraging environment for growth. In Cambridge, a 2025 alum has volunteered her strong organizational skills to support program logistics, providing meaningful help to staff while staying connected to the Enroot community. These moments demonstrate Enroot’s lasting impact. We see students not only grow in skills and confidence while they are with us, but also use those strengths beyond Enroot and, at times, bring them back to the community they had a hand in building. If your organization was an emoji what would it be and why? 🪸 Coral—Coral reefs are living creatures that build intricate undersea structures through symbiotic relationships with other organisms in their community. They support between 25-30% of all marine life. Around 25-30% of children in Massachusetts have at least one immigrant parent. With luck and hard work, we are here to build a reef for and with them in which to thrive! Visit Enroot's website here. |
